Patriots Cut Roster Down To Fifty-One On Saturday

Leave it to Bill Belichick. When faced with a deadline to cut his roster down to 53—he  goes it two better by ending up with just 51. While Tim Tebow was the most notable cut on Saturday, there were also a few other interesting moves. Safety Adrian Wilson was placed on injured reserve, while tight ends Daniel Fells and Jake Ballard were both cut. Defensive lineman Jermaine Cunningham was also cut—along with free-spirited punter Zoltan Mesko. Tight end Rob Gronkowski was not placed on the PUP list and will join Michael Hoomanawanui and Zach Sudfeld at that position.

New Enlgand Patriots Release Tim Tebow Saturday

Not that anyone is really surprised, but the New England Patriots announced on Saturday that 2007 Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow was cut by the team. With Ryan Mallett firmly entrenched as the #2 quarterback behind Tom Brady, Bill Belichick resorted to his historic attachment to just two QBs. It would have been ludicrous to sacrifice a precious roster spot by cutting a productive player to accommodate Tebow. The now-free-agent's reaction was typically gracious: "I would like to thank Mr. (Robert) Kraft, coach (Bill) Belichick, coach (Josh) McDaniels and the entire Patriots organization for giving me the opportunity to be a part of such a classy organization. I will remain in relentless pursuit of continuing my lifelong dream of being an NFL quarterback." This is the right move—no matter what Bob Kraft wanted.

'Bloody' Good Win For Pats; Down Titans, 34-13

Don McPeak-US PRESSWIRE
The Titans defense did achieve something this afternoon—they gave Tom Brady a bloody boo-boo on his nose. Other than that, the New England offense—which Brady said was clicking in its final practice—glided to a 34-13 win in Nashville. Brady passed for 236 yards and 2 touchdowns—moving him to fifth all-time in TD passes. In our pre-game post, we said to look for Stevan Ridley "to have multiple big-play opportunities". We were right about that, as Ridley ran for 125 yards and a touchdown—averaging 6 yards a carry, with his longest being a 17-yard gain. He also caught two passes—something he never did in college—for 27 yards. As expected the Tight End Twins were spectacular—each catching six passes. Newcomer Brandon Lloyd—who you'd expect to get a lot of single coverage in this offense, added 5 catches. And, let's not forget this rejuvenated defense, as rookies Dont'a Hightower and Chandler Jones combined for 7 tackles—with Hightower recovering a fumble for a TD. All in all, a dominating first win—which we almost called correctly pre-game (31-17).
